Questions of Interest:

1.                  Why are you running for the Parkston Board of Education?

I have been on the school board for the Parkston School District for the last 5 years and it has been a wonderful experience. I have found great fulfillment in being a part of the community and school district in a unique way. It has allowed me to learn so many new things, get to know the people of our school district better, and see our students have so much success. I enjoy being a part of a thriving school district and helping to make it the best it can be for our students, parents, and district members.

2.                  If elected, what will be your priorities for the district?

One of my priorities is ensuring our students have a safe and successful school to be a part of! I also want to make sure that the school district employees have a safe and professional environment to instruct our students and find fulfillment in their careers. It also is a priority of mine to allow school district members to feel heard and appreciated. I know that it is important to keep costs manageable, but also to find a balance between continuing to grow and change our school district to make sure we are competitive with those around us to do the best we can for our students!

3.                  Is there a particular issue that motivates you to serve on the board of education?

There is not one particular issue that motivates me to serve. It is just seeing students have success and feel supported, employees of the school district finding purpose and passion in their work, and patrons of the school district feel heard!

4.                  What particular experiences or skills have prepared you to serve as a board member?

I believe serving on the Parkston School Board for the last 5 years allows me to make sound decisions because of past experiences and understanding what my role is. My current role as an RN in a healthcare setting has helped to bring my nursing/healthcare knowledge to decisions that affect our school. My current role also entails being a leader of people which I think helps in so many areas of being on the school board. The skills I have developed in my professional life as a healthcare leader have helped me to have difficult conversations, as well as look to understand other's perspectives.

•     Served on the Parkston School Board for 5 years, currently President

•     Past Parkston School PTO member, treasurer

•     Past band leader for Sacred Heart Church

•     Stats for Volleyball
