This program, which is run by volunteers, is funded by community donations and helps Parkston students with daily essentials so they can focus on having a successful academic year.
Roughly 35% of the students k-12 with the Parkston School District qualify for free or reduced lunch fall 2020. This means that there are a lot of local families who likely struggle with providing the daily essentials for their children that other families may take for granted. School can be tough enough without worrying about having the basic daily essentials to attend.
The Trojan Den of Parkston
The Trojan Den of Parkston’s sole mission is to work with school staff to confidently distribute daily essentials so students can focus on having a successful academic school year. The Trojan Den is housed in the Parkston High School. Items are distributed to all grade levels within the Parkston School District from this location.
How does the Program work?
Any students in need of basic daily essentials just needs to discuss those needs in confidence with any school staff member, OR any school staff member can bring forth a student’s needs, OR a student can quickly shop during open hours. If the Den does not currently have the needed items, the Den will reach out to our volunteers who will do their best to help fulfill the student’s needs. Use and/or request of items is completely confidential.
How can you help make a difference?
1. Send a financial donation. Make the check payable to the Parkston School District Trojan Den and send it to the school district – In care of Trojan Den. 102C chapman Dr. Parkston SD 57366
Financial donations to this program are tax deductible. For any donation of $250 or greater you will automatically receive a proof of donation letter.
2. Donate items currently needed.
· New items – please drop off at the elementary or high school office.
· Clean and gently used items – Please contact us for a drop off, or drop off during scheduled events that you will be notified about. – times will be listed on the Facebook page
3. Organize and host a collection drive at your business or workplace. Please contact us for more information
4. Join our “Trojan Den” Facebook page to see items we are currently in high need of.
· Volunteer – or help when you can with donations, be a drop off point or organize a supply drive!

Clean, gently used items are accepted, except where indicated. Having items sorted by size and washed is greatly appreciated!
